Planning is something no one likes to do, but it is absolutely critical for achieving a useful EA. EA is a decision support tool, not an end unto itself, so a good understanding of the decisions the EA will support and the data needed is necessary to achieve success. Organizations that skimp on planning for their EA end up spending a lot of money on a mountain of models and data that they then have no idea how to use.
