FACEBOOK E-COMMERCE TIMELINE

Below is a partial timeline of major brands and retailers selling on Facebook. It’s not exhaustive, and you’ll find more and examples on Social Commerce Today (http://socialcommercetoday.com)

Feb 2007: Facebook opens Virtual Gifts gift store, selling small digital icons for giving between Facebook friends. Each gift initially costs $1, before pricing evolves to a points system ($1 for 100 points). The Virtual Gifts store generates $15 million of e-commerce revenue for Facebook before closing in August 2010.

May 2007: Facebook evolves from application to app platform supporting add-on apps and opens first eBay style “Marketplace” for peer-to-peer commerce.
