The following are definitions of the user behaviors and user interface design elements that impact eye movements exhibited in our eyetracking usability research.

Behavior

Description

Ad relativity and competition in UI

All elements on the page, including ads, compete for users’ attention. Page elements that are of great interest to users can eclipse advertisements and other UI elements.

Banner blindness

Ignoring elements that peripherally seem to be advertising or banners.

Desired exploration

Multiple fruitful and usually enjoyable fixations, even repeated fixations on the same area.

Unconstructive combing of pages and menus. When people repeatedly look at an area, it can indicate that the page is not well organized ...
