AT THE PEAK OF SUMMER, WE MAKE A FORAY INTO THE backyard. My son digs in dirt, grasps tree limbs, drags his hand through leaves, calling out to me every now and then to marvel at a diligent worm, the mischief of crows. With the familiar heft of my camera in hand, I open my creative eyes for what feels like meditation. We are companionable, each of us occupied in the outdoors.
