Changing the Representation: State Tables

If you change the representation of the state model to a table, you can find even more opportunities for unexpected transitions.

Consider my alarm clock. It looks like Figure 3, Alarm clock interface, and it operates like a typical alarm clock.

  • You can turn the alarm on or off.

  • You can set the alarm time by pressing and holding the alarm set button and then pressing an arrow to indicate whether you want the alarm earlier or later.

  • If the alarm is turned on, it buzzes when the clock ticks over to the indicated time.
