The Private View

The private view is usually held the afternoon or evening before the exhibition opens to the public. This event has different names in different countries, and is also known as the opening, the artist’s reception, or the vernissage in French. Vernissage comes from the word vernis, which is a clear varnish that was applied to a painting a day or so before the exhibition opened to the public in France.
