12. Using Powerful Functions: Logical, Lookup, Web, and Database Functions

This chapter covers five groups of workhorse functions. If you process spreadsheets of medium complexity, you will turn to logical and lookup functions regularly.

• The logical functions, including the ubiquitous IF function, help make decisions. Excel 2013 adds the XOR function (for eXclusive OR) and the IFNA function.

• The information functions might be less important than they once were, now that Microsoft has added the IFERROR function, but INFO, CELL, and TYPE still come in handy. New in Excel 2013 are the SHEET, SHEETS, and ISFORMULA functions.
