Synopsis

The Options dialog, shown in Figure 8-36, provides general settings for various features of Excel. For example, on the General tab you can indicate the number of worksheets that should be placed in each workbook as it is created. If you change any of these settings it affects all currently open workbooks, and any that Excel may open or create in the future.

View Tab

The View tab provides options for specifying how your Excel window displays a workbook on the screen. There are basically four different groups of options on this tab. You select options in each group by selecting the appropriate radio button or checkbox.

If you have a large worksheet with several formulas you may want to select the Manual option. If you select manual the worksheet will not be recalculated until you select the Calc Now or Calc Sheet button or press F9. The worksheet will also be recalculated when you save it if the “Recalculate before save” checkbox is selected.

The Iterations section limits the number of iterations that Excel makes for goal setting or for resolving circular references. For more information refer to “Tools Goal Setting.”
