Name

ROW

Synopsis

Use ROW to determine the row number of the specified row. If the function is used without an argument the row number of the cell containing the function is returned.

To Calculate

=ROW(Reference)

The Reference argument is optional for this function.

Note

If the argument contains a vertical range of cells and if the function is entered as an array it returns a vertical array of values.

Example

Figure 16-4 illustrates how ROW determines the row numbers for a specific range. We are determining the location of the named range West_Coast. It returns an array representing the row numbers within the specified range. If you wanted to determine the row number of the first cell in the range, place the function in one cell. The function returns one row number for each cell selected for the function.
