Name

AVERAGEA

Synopsis

AVERAGEA allows you to find the average (arithmetic mean) between a list of values. These values are numeric, logical, or text. If you have a logical value of TRUE, the function evaluates it as 1, whereas FALSE is evaluated as 0. All text is evaluated as 0.

To Calculate

=AVERAGEA(Number1, Number2, ...)

There must be at least one Number argument specified.

Example

Figure 15-1 illustrates how AVERAGEA calculates the average of an entire list of values. The logical value TRUE in cell A9 is treated as a 1, causing the average value returned by this function to be lower than the value returned by AVERAGE, which ignores logical values.

Note

If you do not want logical values and text to be included in the calculation, use the AVERAGE function.
