File Save

Synopsis

The File Save option saves the currently selected workbook. If the workbook has not been previously saved, you will be prompted to specify a name and location for the workbook when you select File Save, the Save button, or Ctrl+S.

Remember, someone running Excel 5.0/95 or earlier will not be able to open any workbooks saved in the Excel 97-2000 format. If you want to give a copy of the workbook to another user, first verify the format that the workbook is saved in by selecting the File Save As option.

Save Often

To eliminate the aggravation of lost data, remember to save often. There is nothing more frustrating than spending two hours entering data into a worksheet only to have the power go out. To ensure that your workbook gets saved automatically you can also set the Tools AutoSave option. The AutoSave option is an Add-in that comes along with Excel. It can be loaded by selecting the AutoSave Add-In on Tools Add-Ins. (Refer to Chapter 8).
