Glossary

This includes definitions of all acronyms and technical terms used.

16 QAM (16 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation). 16 QAM is a 16-state phase and amplitude modulation scheme used in HSDPA radio interface.

3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). 3GPP is a cross-country organization initially in charge of the definition of the 3G UMTS standard.

3GPP2 (3rd Generation Partnership Project 2). 3GPP2 is a cross-country organisation in charge of the definition of the 3G cdma2000 standard and its evolutions.

8PSK (8 Phase Shift Keying). 8PSK is an eight-state phase-modulation scheme used in EDGE radio interface.

AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting). AAA is a generic model for IP network access control, initiated and developed by IETF.

AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). AES is a robust symmetric encryption algorithm.

AF (Application Function) AF is the generic name for the network element which supports applications that require dynamic policy and/or charging control. For 3GPP IP access types, the AF is supported by the P-CSCF.

AKA (Authentication and Key Agreement). The AKA process is a challenge–response-based mechanism which aims at mutual network/terminal authentication and security key distribution.

AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate). The AMR speech coder is a single integrated speech codec with multiple source rates, allowing a trade-off between speech quality and channel protection as the bit error rate varies.

ARQ (Automatic Repeat Request). ARQ is a method for repetition ...
