Chapter 19. Metadata

Metadata plays a variety of roles in the creation and management of Every Page is Page One topics. But if structured writing is a term that causes confusion, metadata is doubly so. Metadata is used in many ways for many purposes, but often people see metadata in just one role – as the information attached to a document or a web page to help people find it. This use of metadata is essentially the same as the label on a product package, such as that in Figure 19.1, “Pasta jar label”.
