The Energy Union sets out the key challenges for the European energy sector, namely to deliver to EU consumers (households and businesses) sustainable, secure, competitive, and affordable energy [1]. This will require a fundamental transformation of Europe’s energy system. The outcome of COP21, the Paris Agreement which the EU ratified, further underlines the need for such a transition.
