The Vehicle–Driver Interface

This chapter discusses the vehicle–driver interface. Topics include the assessment of driver–vehicle performance and driver workload, the system approach of the driver responding to the vehicle in a closed-loop setting, and the general McRuer crossover model (based on the human tendency to adapt to system characteristics of the vehicle).

The McRuer model is then applied to car following and handling situations. Car following is based on feedback of distance headway and speed difference.
