Families and Types of Materials

There are five separate types of materials in ZBrush that I prefer to think of as residing in “families.” The families are Standard, Special, MatCaps, Fiber, and the Flat shader (which isn’t a true material as it contains no color or shading information at all and hence requires its own family). Let’s go through these families one by one and outline which materials reside in which one and what they do. Once you have a basic understanding of this we can continue on to other concepts involving materials.
