SUMMARY

The Digital Harmony protocol suite was created with the consumer in mind. By actively participating in the standards process from the beginning, Digital Harmony hopes to be instrumental to the success of IEEE 1394 as a consumer electronics interconnect. While some aspects of their business model are similar to Dolby Labs and Lucasfilm/THX (e.g., device certification), Digital Harmony hopes to be for IEEE 1394 interfaces what C-Cube was for MPEG, and what Novell was for Ethernet. The growing list of Digital Harmony partners, as well as numerous public demonstrations of working entertainment systems over the past three years, has established Digital Harmony as a provider of interoperable IEEE 1394 solutions.
