The purpose of this book is to provide the reader with the foundation needed to follow developments in computing and related technologies. Given the rapid changes that continue to occur, the traditional type of conclusion, one that describes what the future holds, is doomed to failure. Still, speculation is fun (and in some cases, profitable). If you've read all the way through the book, and thought about the rate of change to date, you should not only understand these views, but very likely disagree with some of them.
