A Case of Compulsive Masturbation
This clinical report illustrates the treatment of a man with a narcissistic behavior disorder at the healthier end of the spectrum. Peter Stone used compulsive, ritualized masturbation accompanied by a preoccupation with pornography that displayed women with large breasts. Images of women on paper, on celluloid, or in his mind’s eye were required to arouse him. A stable mirroring selfobject transference developed in the course of his analysis and his symptoms were experienced in the vicissitudes and working through of this transference.
