28LITERATURE STUDY FOR DEA ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

28.1 INTRODUCTION

Difficulties related to the environmental protection have been gradually recognized with public awareness on the global warming and climate change. In this book, Chapter 13 discussed various energy issues and Chapter 14 discussed environmental problems which are closely related to not only our ecological systems but also economies and businesses. The gist of this book is to provide a link between the natural science and engineering efforts to reduce the amount of various pollutants and the social science efforts to support these by preparing energy and environmental policy agendas and corporate strategies which reflect our global perspective within world business. As a methodology to attain a high level of such social and corporate sustainability, this book proposes various approaches and mathematical models which originate from DEA environmental assessment for energy sectors.

In previous research efforts on DEA applied to energy and environment, Sueyoshi and Yuan (2016) summarized 407 papers1. As an extension of their literature survey, this chapter 2 summarizes previous research efforts on DEA environmental assessment during the past four decades by reorganizing their efforts into newly proposed categories of articles. To attain our research extension, this chapter returns to Chapter 13 which reviewed a general trend of world energy, in particular focusing upon various categories of primary and secondary energies. ...
