Chapter 15. Parting Thoughts

Software development is very difficult, and the Rational Unified Process (RUP) does a very good job of describing how to succeed at it. Running an information technology (IT) department is even harder; not only do you have to be good at software development, you also have to be good at operating and supporting systems after they’re in production and even retiring them from use after they’ve served their purpose. Because you probably have many systems either proposed, being developed, or in production, you need to consider a myriad of cross-system issues. The Enterprise Unified Process (EUP) starts where the RUP ends, describing how to turn the RUP into a full IT lifecycle.
