Chapter 4. MDM Security and Privacy

This chapter explains the role of security and privacy in an MDM Solution. The key to securing an MDM environment is to first understand the value of and the risks to the master data, which will serve as a guide to selecting and applying the appropriate security controls. Privacy in MDM is an orthogonal concern to security—where security is focused on controlling access to master data, privacy is focused on the appropriate use of personal data based on regulation and the explicit consent of the party. Note that for this chapter we assume some basic understanding of computer security technology, especially cryptography. A good primer on this subject can be found here [1].
