Introduction

In the beginning was the command line. You can automate anything and everything in OS X, but knowledge of the command line will be required to fully automate your deployment and integrate Mac OS X in the enterprise while maintaining a low total cost of ownership. This isn’t to say you can’t integrate OS X into a large organization en masse without using the command line—you can. However, from automation to troubleshooting, opening up a terminal window will be key to keeping your sanity, if only from time to time. But don’t fear the terminal, and know that the fundamental tasks required and the fundamental methodologies with Windows deployments are the same as with OS X.
