DATA ENRICHMENT/ENHANCEMENT

Data enrichment (also known as data enhancement) is a process of increasing the value of a pool of information by combining data from multiple sources. The goal of enrichment is to provide a platform deriving more knowledge from collections of data. We can use enrichment as a means for learning more about entities in a set of databases to create a “value-added” information product, to investigate fraudulent behavior, or even to increase the quality of a given data set.

A simple enrichment example is in targeted marketing. Let’s assume that a preferred customer is one who spends more than $100 a month on a set of products and whose credit history indicates strong predilection toward prompt payment of bills. We can ...
