Chapter 6

Creating Texture Maps

Texture maps are raster images that are stretched to fit bounded areas within drawings or the geometrical surfaces of models to make them appear more realistic. Without texture maps, models appear flat and lifeless. In Chapter 2, “Enhancing Drawings in Photoshop,” you learned a bit about texture maps by converting preexisting textures into patterns and using them to enhance a floor-plan drawing. You will now explore how to create texture maps so you can then learn the tricks for adjusting how they are assigned to 3D models in Photoshop in Chapter 7, “Compositing Imagery from 3D Applications.”
