Part VI Transients

In Parts IV and V we only consider what happens in an electric circuit when it is operating under steady-state conditions (in other words, where the voltage and current remains constant). However, in many electrical applications there can be significant changes in voltage and current and we need to be able to take these changes into account in our circuit analysis. Such transient conditions often exist for only a very brief time when there is a change from one steady-state condition to another, for example, when a switch is opened or closed, when a supply voltage is first applied to a circuit or when it is disconnected.
