1 The Q-value represents the energy balance of a nuclear reaction; it can be determined from the energy difference or the mass difference between the reactants and the products of a nuclear reaction. The Q-value is positive for exothermic reaction in which the KE of the products is greater than that of reactants so the total mass of reactants is greater than that of the products.The Q-value is negative for endothermic reaction.
