11.4 Step index fibres and graded index fibres—transmission of signals in them
Based on the variation of refractive index of core, optical fibres are divided into: (1) step index and (2) graded index fibres. Again based on the mode of propagation, all these fibres are divided into: (1) single mode and multimode fibres. In all optical fibres, the refractive index of cladding material is uniform.
