Empirix, a spinoff of Teradyne, had similar experiences. Founded in September 2000, Empirix combines the Web test and monitoring capabilities of RSW Software with the voice and network test capabilities of Hammer Technologies—both previously acquired by Teradyne. Empirix offers testing solutions for communications equipment manufacturers, e-businesses, and enterprise call centers, and it serves 2,000 customers worldwide.

Empirix had to have a solution in place by January 1, 2001, or pay significant chargeback fees to its former parent. The prospect of these charges was a positive motivator for Empirix to move rapidly.
