Sometimes It's Just Personal

The application of increasing levels of technology to the challenges of building secure computing environments is worthwhile, but it should be noted that the protection of sensitive information, systems, or business is not always a technical problem. In a recent meeting between Oracle and the CIO of a major Asian bank, the CIO said, “I want you to take my HR and payroll data.” Having never been asked this so directly, we asked him why. His response was, “I know my DBAs can see their salary, their boss's salary, and their peer's salary. I know your guys can see it as well, but why would they care?”
