Research is also being done at Carnegie Mellon University under the direction of Roy Maxion to develop technology that might prevent operator/human-induced outages. His tool MetriStation provides an up-front measurement of the operator population to see which types of people and skills will be involved. In addition, it characterizes the specific elements of the tasks expected to be performed. The measurement will tell you where you went right and where you went wrong, and error analysis will lead you to the corrections that need to be made to the user interface.
