Planetary Scale Computing
HP Laboratories has built an entire lab around its vision of planetary scale computing. The effort seeks to design a robust infrastructure for the future, looking past current models for providing processing and data storage capacity. A new model is the target, one that can handle the next level of demand. Top-level objectives for third-generation systems include allocating resources wherever and whenever they're needed most, an infrastructure based on a shared pool of processing power, and data storage capacity that can be automatically reconfigured in minutes instead of days or weeks.
