A Brief History

Oracle began its commitment to the idea that software should be delivered as a service, not a CD-ROM, in 1999 with the creation of a separate company named Business Online. But Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, recognizing that the change was fundamental to Oracle's business—software—folded the company back into Oracle in 2000. While the name has changed from Oracle.com to Oracle Outsourcing and most recently to Oracle On Demand, the fundamental philosophy has been unwavering: Who better to manage Oracle software than Oracle? Today, the On Demand business is the fastest-growing business inside Oracle and has the goal of being a $1 billion business in less than 5 years.
