Ego

Ego is a loaded word, so let’s take a moment and expand the definition. For our purposes, ego means focusing on how something impacts you personally and then acting on the basis of that impact. We make decisions every day based on our egos. People decide which projects to volunteer for based on how visible they will be in the company. Ideas, innovations, and best practices are all ego-driven. I know I have never met anyone who wasn’t attached to his or her own ideas. Having an ego is not a bad thing. It is only destructive when your ego hampers your ability to listen and understand others and to be present in the moment.
