As leaders, we must focus on ourselves before we can try to manage or lead others. Without mastery of our own emotions, we will never be in a position to lead others.

Self-awareness and self-management are the two key aspects of self-leadership. With self-awareness, we identify our own emotional states and the sources of our emotions. Self-management means handling or directing our emotions with skill. This is not possible without awareness.
