The llanos of Venezuela and Colombia have an extension of about 500,000 km2 and is the largest region of savannas located to the north of South America. These savannas have a high mean annual temperature (about 27°C) and relative high mean annual precipitation (over 900 mm), which are responsible for an active rate of chemical weathering and for the development of extensive well-weathered soils with strong P-fixing capacities.
