Chapter 12. Test-Driven Development

One of the most popular and energized movements in software development, as of this writing, is test-driven development, or TDD.

I have to admit that I was pretty skeptical of the whole notion of “letting tests drive,” probably because it seemed such an odd idea to me at the time. Like most developers (especially those from an earlier era), I considered testing to be someone else’s job: the Quality Assurance department. In fact, I generally considered myself unqualified to do proper testing. QA is a study and perhaps a profession in and of itself.

Also, I have come to suspect “cool ideas” generally. It seems like every so often, on a regular basis, someone comes along and offers our profession a “silver bullet” ...
