EMC Standards

The standards field for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is one of the first areas to be covered in the EU by what are known as ‘new approach directives’. This means that many of the product specific directives are in fact just guidelines to application, the appropriate testing methods and limits may be contained in other European Norme (EN) standards. It would not be uncommon to find that it requires several EN standards to encompass fully the testing required on a single product item. There is no straightforward way to navigate through these standards, it will undoubtedly take time and care, but with experience the designer will learn what standards apply to their designs and be able to list them in the test schedule. ...
