Quality organizations

While professional organizations mainly serve their specific members, many national organizations focus on improving the overall quality of health for everyone. You can turn to several quality organizations to find out more about meeting EHR-related standards of quality for care through electronic information sharing. Most of these organizations are broad-based in focus but include parameters for acceptable and encouraged use of electronic health records.

Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (www.ahrq.gov): The AHRQ is the health services research division of HHS that focuses on the place of research within the healthcare industry, including research in quality improvement, patient outcomes, and clinical practice and technology assessment.

Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance (www.ambulatoryqualityalliance.org): The AQA is a wide-reaching group that includes several stakeholder groups who agree on ways to measure performance and report their findings to consumers to improve patient outcomes.

American Medical Association Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (www.ama-assn.org): The PCPI is an AMA-sponsored group committed to improving quality of care and patient safety. This group develops, tests, and maintains evidence-based clinical performance standards.
