Using support tools

You can create a whole library of support tools to make available to your practice’s employees so they can have the resources they need to succeed with the EHR. There is so much great, free information about EHRs available on the Web and from outside resources, you’d be hard pressed not to find something useful on how to use them and how to make the most of your experience with them.

While you familiarize yourself with the system, turn your notes into quick, easy-to-read tip sheets that others in the office can use. Keep your support materials concise and focused on specific features. Provide screenshots and step-by-step instructions for your staff and colleagues. You can also use a simple, handheld video camera to create your own mini podcasts or video tutorials to use during the training of new hires and retraining for existing employees.

Make use of any outside help you can find. Think about what outside resources you can use to help your staff continue their EHR training and retraining, and optimize their experience with the system. We outline several resources in Chapter 3.
