Training post–go-live

When new members join your staff, they must be properly trained on how to use your system. Identify a staff member responsible for that training, how long the training will last, and what training method you will use.

A super user is an ideal person to perform the training. Arrange coverage or schedule the new-hire’s training time after regular business hours so training time doesn’t conflict with the super user’s normal work.

Staff will likely develop tips, tricks, and shortcuts to share with colleagues. Additionally, the vendor will continuously upgrade the software, mostly based on feedback from individual practices. Stay abreast of changes, have someone in the practice responsible for ensuring this information is properly disseminated, and offer formal training when appropriate.

remember.eps You’ll have to put together an ongoing training strategy to train employees on new features as your system gets upgraded. Your super user is an ideal candidate to lead this training, as well.

The learning never ends, and that’s actually a good thing for most clinicians. The systems will continually evolve; you have the opportunity to grow with them and improve your ability to deliver quality patient care.
