Testing proficiency

Test how well each staff member can use the EHR and absorb the training materials. Don’t expect everyone to be an expert but do confirm that everyone has the basic skills to care for patients using this new system. Measuring the proficiency of your staff serves several purposes:

Identifies users who need additional training or support.

Identifies specific areas of training that may be unclear. If users are consistently missing questions in one area, the curriculum or the proficiency test needs to be evaluated and potentially adjusted.

Provides an official measurement of the success of training.

Conduct the proficiency test at the end of the training class. If someone doesn’t pass the test, identify whether additional education in a specific area is needed or whether a global concern might warrant a review with all participants or additional guidance from the vendor.
