Scheduling training time

Total training time is based on a few factors, including amount of functionality that you are implementing, EHR experience of your staff, and complexity of the EHR. Neither you nor your staff will retain everything you learn, and you shouldn’t be expected to. Build a foundation, learn the basic skills, and make a commitment to improve with time.

Depending on the amount of training that is necessary for you and your staff, the vendor may offer to split the training into multiple sessions or complete it all in one sitting. If you get the choice, and the training is for more than four hours, split the classes into two or three days. After four hours, your retention of the material decreases significantly. Additionally, at the subsequent classes, you can start with a refresher of the previous class to reinforce your skills and knowledge.

tip.eps Complete an assessment of your staff prior to training and group training class attendees by their computer skills and previous EHR experience. If all the “expert” users are in a class together, the trainer may be able to accelerate the class.
