Providing for training and support

Training is a key component to your success with the new EHR. As you research potential vendors, keep in mind the training and support functions each prospect offers. Training is typically a two-fold process that involves some preliminary guidance with transferring and scanning files to the new EHR system, followed by a more formal training session prior to go-live (when the system is officially up and running). Check out Chapter 11 for more training info.

Your vendor relationship shouldn’t end with training, though. You also want to use your vendor’s support features and personnel throughout the EHR life, which can range from technical support to continuing education for you and your staff.

remember.eps You have to stay on top of your office’s training and support needs. Although vendors can provide a lot of assistance in these areas, it’s your job to make sure they offer those things and stick to their promises. Follow up, always.
