Deciding when to train

When’s the right time to provide training? Do you train four to six weeks ahead of your go-live or wait until one to two days before you turn on the system? Although both strategies can work, most practices (and individuals) do much better if training is closer to go-live so the information is fresh in everyone’s mind. (Some preliminary work will have to be done in regard to preloading and scanning charts, too, which you read about in Chapter 9.) Ask the vendor to accommodate your requests for training near go-live or provide rationale for the alternative strategy.
