CCHIT

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) is a not-for-profit group whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of health IT by improving quality, safety, efficiency, and access. A relatively new organization, CCHIT (founded in 2004) is largely in the business of providing certifications for EHRs (which it has done since 2006). CCHIT was the first organization in the industry to certify EHR functionality and interoperability, so it’s not surprising that it is an ONC-ATCB as well as additional certification programs for EHRs.

didyouknow.eps Previous and CCHIT Certified 2011 criteria were developed through a voluntary, consensus-based process that takes the opinions of multiple stakeholders into account.

CCHIT offers two certification programs:

ONC-ATCB Certified 2011/2012 (www.cchit.org/products/onc-atcb): This program certifies complete EHRs and EHR modules and is recognized by ONC to certify that an EHR meets ARRA certification criteria. Certification by this program translates to Medicare and Medicaid incentives.

CCHIT Certified 2011: This independent certification (separate from the ONC-ATCB certification program) includes a thorough inspection of your EHR’s integrated functionality, interoperability, and security.
