Alphabet Soup

The world of electronic health records has many acronyms floating around. For your reading and reference enjoyment, we present these acronyms in an easy-to-peruse alphabetized list. Enjoy your alphabet soup!

AAFP: American Association of Family Physicians. National medical society that serves as the primary professional, policy, and advocacy organization for family practice physicians.

AAP: American Academy of Pediatrics. National medical society that serves as the primary professional, policy, and advocacy organization for pediatricians.

ACMPE: The American College of Medical Practice Executives. An arm of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMAS) that sets standards for the industry and promotes the professional development of PM leaders. See also MGMA.

ACO: Accountable Care Organization. A new model emerging as a result of health reform where an organization that includes primary care physicians, specialists, and at least one hospital, share responsibility for the quality and the cost of care received by patients of the organization.

ACP: American College of Physicians. National medical society that serves as the primary professional, policy, and advocacy organization for internists. ACP established AmericanEHR Partners, a program focused on assisting physicians to adopt Health Information Technology.

AHQA: American Health Quality Association. An umbrella organization representing a national network of community-based Quality Improvement Organizations ...
