Evaluating the system

It’s go-live time! This is the moment you and your fellow employees have been waiting for — time to see all of your hard work at EHR adoption and implementation come to fruition as you begin your new life in a paperless world. Every planning meeting, every visit with the vendor rep, and every moment you spent making sure all the EHR’s bells and whistles worked are about to pay big dividends when you start to use the power of EHR to streamline your workflows and provide more efficient care to your patients.

Go-live has its own unique set of challenges and opportunities for which you’ll want to prepare. In this chapter, we provide a few checklists (for the “big day”), so you can make sure you and your practice are 100 percent ready for the excitement of going live.

Creating a Go-Live Timeframe

We present a lot of to-do’s in this chapter. To keep your go-live on a steady schedule, create a go-live timeframe. Work backward from the go-live date, and schedule incremental dates to complete all your final preparations.

Doing so creates some excitement and buzz within the office, and helps instill confidence in your EHR leadership and system. A firm date says, “Yes, we are really doing this, and it’s going to be a good thing.”
