9.1 INTRODUCTION

The previous chapter dealt with wave propagation in unbounded media (media of infinite extent). Such wave propagation is “unguided”. In unguided propagation, a uniform plane wave exists throughout the space. EM energy associated with such a wave is spread across a very wide area. Wave propagation in “unbounded-media” finds its use/application in TV or radio broadcasting. In such applications, information is being transmitted for anybody who is interested.
