14.10 THE SYSTEM FUNCTION AND SIGNAL DISTORTION

We formally define the system function of a linear circuit below.

The system function for a particular input-output pair is the ratio of Fourier transform of the zero-state response of the output variable to Fourier transform of the input variable. It is the same as frequency response function defined for that input-output pair. It is numerically the same as Fourier transform of the impulse response for that input-output pair.
